3M 32" Touch C3266PW -Any Experience ?

Post by cpia2002 » 02 May 2017 15:04

Hi there,

I currently use a 27" inch monitor with Dtouch and its been so good i have sold my big Nucleus SSL console.

The only thing i wish was that its a bit tricky to touch accurately some of the same buttons , icons etc in Cubase - can be fiddily .

So am looking at 32" 3M™ Multi-Touch Display C3266PW - please see link - I am pretty sure it will work well, as Silvano said Windows 10 is usually not a problem with Touch screens, but i wanted to double check and also see if anyone had experience with it :)

http://solutions.3m.co.uk/wps/portal/3M ... 496&rt=rud

it is 5" bigger, but that would make things a bit easier , without going up to a huge 40" Capactive screen - and as they dont do a 36" Cap monitor anywhere, and because of cost , 32" is probably my best option.

Also is anyone clever enough to post a screenshot real size comparison of a small part of Cubase D-Touch 27" vs 32" - i.e so i could compare if the difference is worth it (Say a screen shot of a couple of faders at the real world size i would see) , which may give me a better indiction.

All the best

PJ

The 3M looks cool but very pricy.
I think the 32" Iiyamas go for less than half of that.
I don't have any experience on either of them, so I don't know which ones are best.

I would suggest looking at the Iiyama, as ~ufo~ mentioned.

I would also suggest a PQ Labs G5S IR frame paired with a good LED TV.

And, remember you certainly don't need a 40-point touchscreen... you don't even need 10 points.

6 or 4 should be fine -- think of how many faders/knobs can you realistically adjust at once?

Thanks

Thats true.

I only looked at the 3M as its reburished and only 600 EU .

Ideally want a 36 OR THERE ABOUTS which means maybe an overlay is the way to go with a 1080 p Tv.

I know you lay the frame over the top, does it work with most Tvs as long as you get the right size, or does it have to be flush ?

The final thing is i wish i could try out the pq labs 5 s to see how it compares to what i am used to - as obviously wont be able to return it once fitted . It will probably be great, but its at the back of my mind that it may be slower - unresponive and it will actually affect my workflow. OCD coming on here!

Thanks Paul

I know a few people here use PQ Labs 5Gs and from my experience no issues with it being unresponsive or slow what so ever.
You will also need to purchase locally 1/8 " tempered glass cut to exact specifications to fit the G5s frame (it sits just inside of it). Unless of course you order with the glass. I personally ordered the frame from china. It was a lot cheaper for me and I'm a diy guy  so assembly was a breeze. It really depends on where you live in the world as to which route to go. For me in Canada, ordering a G5s frame from china was the best bargain.

Oh yeh, check your pm

Hello cpia2002,
in past we had a British (if I remember correctly) who had that 3M touchmonitor. He described it as a great performing one. If should be said that he had no experiences with other touchmonitors, so ...

Anyway, I know that 3M is a very great manufacturer, probably one of the inventors of the touchscreen. I also know that their products have a stellar price.
Unfortunately I cannot say anything personal because I never tested that monitor.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your input .

I keep agonising over a 32" or a 40" .

The problem with the 40 inch i see is

1) My desk will be full - i like to use 3 monitors and cant see how i can do that !
2) Reaching will probably get very tiring
3) More cost

However, the problems with the 32" inch
1) Will i notice a big difference from 27" touch ?
2) Icons may still be fiddly and small
3) Would need to use my 27" as a display monitor as i could not position it close !

Decisions decisions !

I am thinking 32" with 2 x 27 or 2 x 24 is the way to go , with Duet on iPAD as an extra screen !

I mostly ruled out the overlay option for a few reason, even though i think it would be great

1) Expensive here in UK and Hard to find
2) Have to fit it myself and be patient - not always a strong point
3) No going back once i order it if i decide its not for me - where at least with a monitor i can return it .

Shame PQlabs did not have a bigger presence in UK

Thanks all

My personal point:

32" is not so bigger than 27". Investing a lot of money to upgrade to 32" from 27" has no sense. I would not do it.

If you are in the middle of a studio setup redesign, wait for more infos about our HW controllers. Keep in mind that our large fader pack will fit a 27", not a 32" or higher (this is important and I was very candid about this in past; everytime I spoke about 27").
Soon we will post some drawings in the private section of this forum. We will start with the smaller fader pack, but we are fast with the drawings/ideas.

I don't want to be too invasive, but I understood that you have some money in your pocket => an hybrid physical-touch control surface could have HUGE benefits versus a touch-only one; obviously it is more expensive!

Keep patient; we could have something very good for you :D
